Travel

We’re so grateful to have loved ones joining us from near and far to celebrate with us in the heart of County Tipperary. For those travelling internationally, the most convenient airport is Dublin Airport (DUB), about a 2-hour drive to Cashel. You can rent a car, book a private transfer, take a train, or a direct bus (such as the Expressway Route 245X) from Dublin Airport or city center to Cashel.

If you prefer to travel by train, the Irish Rail service runs from Dublin Heuston Station to Thurles, which is the nearest train station to Cashel. From Thurles Station, Cashel is a 25–30 minute journey by taxi or local bus. Trains run frequently and the journey takes just over an hour.

Alternatively, Cork Airport (ORK) and Shannon Airport (SNN) are also convenient options, each about 1.5 hours by car from Cashel, although with limited bus and train transfer options. If you'd like assistance coordinating transportation or recommendations for booking, feel free to reach out— we’re happy to help. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Eat, Drink, & Be Merry

We’re excited to celebrate our wedding in a place with deep ties to Irish culture—particularly in its contributions to food and drink history.

Cashel Palace Hotel holds a unique place in the story of Guinness. In 1725, Arthur Guinness, founder of the world-famous brewery, was born on the grounds of the hotel. His father, Richard Guinness, brewed ale for the Archbishop of Cashel, who lived in the Palace at the time. Arthur later used a small inheritance from the archbishop to begin brewing in Leixlip, and eventually moved to Dublin to establish what would become one of Ireland’s most iconic exports.

Keeping in theme, we've listed a few local spots to eat, drink, and explore during your stay in Cashel:

Where to Eat:

  • Chez Hans – A Cashel classic, set in a converted Victorian chapel. An upscale, cozy restaurant with a daily rotating European menu with Irish touches.

  • Mikey Ryan’s Bar & Kitchen – Right next to the hotel, perfect for a relaxed dinner, great local food, and an excellent Guinness.

  • O’Neills Bistro: A heart-of-town favorite offering well-executed Irish and European dishes—great for a quality lunch in a comfortable setting.

For Breakfast & Coffee:

  • Ladyswell Café – A sweet little stop near the Rock of Cashel for coffee, tea, and light bites.

  • The Bakehouse – Go-to for fresh scones, pastries, and hearty Irish breakfasts.

Local Flavor:

  • Cashel Blue Cheese – Made just a few miles from town, this award-winning farmhouse blue cheese is Ireland’s first and most famous. You’ll spot it on local menus—or you can visit the cheesemakers at Beechmount Farm in Fethard if you want the full tasting experience.

Pubs & Pints of Guinness:

  • Bailey’s of Cashel – A cozy family-run pub with a historic Cellar Bar (from the 1700s!) and a great Guinness pour.

  • T.J. Ryan’s – Beloved by locals, with that old-Irish charm and one of the best pints in town.

  • The Brian Boru – Friendly, unfussy, and a reliable place to enjoy a creamy pint after wandering through Cashel.
